PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER GUIDE: INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE
Knowledge Is Power
An Urgent Call for Change
The Why and When: There is a growing intimate partner violence pandemic emerging within this Covid-19 pandemic. As healthcare resources become scarce, and accessing care becomes more difficult- patients find themselves isolated and at higher risk.
The Who, What, and Where: Primary care providers in the GTA are in a unique position to support patients struggling with intimate partner violence. However, there is a deficiency in formal medical training, and support in this area. This leads to relative discomfort among primary care providers in detecting IPV and supporting survivors. This guide is meant to bridge this gap in accessible primary care support.
The How: This online resource was developed as a one stop shop for primary care providers- outlining a trauma informed guide to screening, treating and supporting victims of intimate partner violence.
